Most people are unaware that there are different "varieties" of oil on the market. The grade we use in our Mir Argan Beauty Oil and Skin Silk Lotion is very rare and costly but not all oils were created equally.....
THE GOAT CONNECTION
As far as we are aware, we are the only UK supplier of goat-free argan oil.
(Argan oil is expressed from argan nuts that have passed through the digestive systems of the goats that have grazing rights on the land where the argan trees grow. We have sourced a grower who, uniquely, bans this practice.)
Goated argan oil has a "pungent" aroma or it may be processed and sold as deodorised oil.
ROASTED OR RAW?
There are two main types of oil: edible argan oil is produced from roasted nuts because roasting improves flavour; however, the raw nuts preserve the skin-benefiting properties. Much of the "cosmetic grade" oil available is in fact the culinary grade and of little benefit to the skin.
PURE OR ADULTERATED?
Cheaper oils may have been mixed with other vegetable oils (or even mineral oil). Chilli powder is sometimes added to give these blends a more authentic argan-like colour.
STALE OR FRESH?
Unlike wine, argan oil doesn't improve with age. A cheaper oil may have been bulk purchased and sitting around in a warehouse for a year or two before it reaches you.
REFINED OR NATURAL?
Cosmetic grade argan oil may have been deodorised and highly processed to make it more suitable and stable for inclusion in cosmetic formulations. This oil is generally very reasonably priced but of little benefit to your skin.
